Residues

A meditative and somatic exploration of what’s left in the body after a traumatic event or experience

An original creation by Karine Rathle

Residues is a very long-term project, it lasts over time and changes according to the different iterations, it has gone through several bodies, several stages internationally and continues to evolve.

In June 2023, Stage Left commissioned me for a performance to take place during the closing cabaret of the Step Right Up symposium. The result is a 10-minute somatic solo with projections of the dancers who were in the first version in 2011, but this time on a soundtrack created by Emilie Roby.

Residue, is a meditative and somatic exploration of what’s left in the body after a traumatic event or experience, how the memories imbed themselves within fragments of mouvements, sometimes so small that it is invisible from the outside eye. It’s ever changing, it’s subtle, it’s small, it’s big and it can be loud, it is what it is. This work intends to give space to this somatic voice.
